GMAT Review Courses
As I have mentioned in my previous posts, I am thinking about taking a GMAT review course. Not because I have extra hundreds of dollars just sitting in my bank account waiting to be spent on something but because I do think that some extra help might be helpful overall. One of fellow applicant blogger mentioned that maybe I am not doomed to retake the GMAT but I do think that if I go ahead without retaking it and get dinged from all the schools, I will blame my GMAT scores to be one of major reasons. I just want to eliminate that possibility as much as possible. Maybe I just want to get my ass covered from me kicking at the end of the day. I just want to be able to say "Ok, kooljaek, you really have tried to do your best." And that's all good.
So, I have been doing some research on the prep courses. And dang!! They are not cheap.
There are three test prep centres that I can find in the area. I am sure if I search harder, I can find more but this is as many I would look into. The followings are what I have found.
Kaplan - I mean no doubt that Kaplan course would be good. (Or is it?) Apparently most money. They do guarantee you with the higher score (whatever that means). I talked to someone at the prep centre and she gave me the whole deal on everything. Like how many sample tests you can write and blah blah blah and if you are not satisfied then you can use their services for another three months and if you want to take a course again you can do so for a lot less money then first time. So basically 2 month program 20 hrs of class time (I think) for $1,300. For me, the Kaplan location is not as convenient as others but it's Kaplan.
Princeton Review - This one... Hmm the next review course starts in July 11 and goes till Sept 19. That's way too late. Forget it. I have taken Princeton Review GMAT Verbal prep class LONG LONG LONG time ago (4 yrs ago) in Korea when I was visiting for a couple of months. It was a bore. I mean, it was crap. They did not teach anything. Maybe I am just a sucker for believing it might be different in Canada.
Veritas GMAT Prep - Never heard of them. So not sure how good they are. Not that I know how good Kaplan and Princeton Review are. Anyways, their class session hours are double of what Kaplan and Princeton Review offer for the same money. So my reasonable question should be; is the quality of the course getting compromised by the quantity (i.e. number of hours)? That is the question.
Without further knowledge of classes, my first pick is Veritas for the following reasons.
1. Location - easiest for me to get to
2. More hours - the thing is I only need to be prepped for verbal. Kaplan and Princeton courses are all about 20-24 hr long, which means I only get verbal-prepped for 10 hours or so. Veritas program is 40 hour long so I get verbal-prepped for 20 hours or so. But not sure what number of hours really represents.
3. Schedule - Veritas's program starts early July and finishes in late August. All others creep into Sept. I CANNOT let it hanging in till mid Sept.
Anyways, Kaplan says I can sit in their class any time. So I will try that sometime soon.
I was going to talk about "HBS and Stanford; is it worth it stuff" this posting but oh well. That has to move to the next posting.
If you have experienced GMAT review courses (I also understand that there is a possibility of it being completely waste of the money), please share. I would love to hear other thoughts and experiences. : )

I am taking the Princeton review course only because it was cheaper and started earlier than Kaplan. For me it's totally worth it because I need structure in my life to get things done and a course provides me with that. I think in the end any course you do is only going to be as good as the time you put into it. Lucky for me the instructor of this class is really good and so it makes the 3 hours every week fly by! Good Luck!
Kaplan Sucks..
Princeton... Sucks... They teach you "tricks" and do not force you to actually learn what you need to know.
Veritas and Manhattan GMAT... The best of the bunch.. They actually teach you the material.

Manhattan GMAT is really good. So are notes that circulate at the testmagic forum www.urch.com/forums/ . Best of luck for the GMAT.
Thanks for filling out the survey.
The quality of the course will depend more on quality of the individual teacher giving the course than the particular company you are going with. If they are good at explaining the detail of questions you are struggling with, and are enthusiastic enough to keep you awake in your class (which no doubt you'll be taking after work) then you will get good value out of the course.
If Veritas are prepared to offer you the chance to sit in on one of their classes (they should be) like Kaplan have offered then I would really recommend it.
I would also ask whether they offer you any help with your application. A good prep centre should be able to talk you through the application process and give you advice on your essays etc.
phew, such a long way to get there.
what can I say? chill out, mate.
If you expect to score around 700. I would say Manhatten hands down. I did private tutoring with veritas and was not impressed at all.
I took the MLIC GMAT course. Right from the get-go, I found the pre-class training materials to be extremely useful in getting me up to speed in some of the core areas. MLIC study guides covering the verbal and math reasoning areas were outstanding. The in-class training (I took the MLIC turboprep course) ran for about 40 hours and the quality of teaching and support were extremely commendable. The other prep companies use part-time instructors and from what i hear, do not do as good a job as MLIC did. I have heard Veritas shortens the class hours if the instructor cannot come to the class or cancel them on short notice. Manhattan GMAT switches you to their online class if they do not get sufficient people to sign up. Besudes, Manhattan GMAT class runs for about 27 hours versus the 40 hours of quality training I received from MLIC GMAT prep company. I would strongly recommend MLIC GMAT Course over any other course out there. Their website is MLIC GMAT
Another thing about Veritas. One of my associates took their private tutoring and the instructor messed him up big time. This guy had ADD and had always tested with accommodation. The Veritas guys told him that if he took the GMAT under aocommodation, the schools will not view the results favorably. Bull Crap! Guess what happened? This associate of mine scored a miserable 370 after spending a fortune with Veritas on private tutoring. I then recommended him to MLIC GMAT courses, and he took the test again (without accommodation because ETS refused to allow accommodated testing because he had tested once without accommodation) and improved his score fo 570. MLIC company worked with this fellow on his essays and had him explain his ADD situation to the school. He made it to the part-time MBA program at NYU. Veritas is all hat and no cattle! MLIC is steak without the sizzle but I would take the steak over sizzle any day.
I am probably late in posting this , but www.scorechase.com is a great forum for GMAT Preparation too. You can work from the convenience of your home.
Check out Scorechase GMAT Forum
I scored 760 this january.
Thanx great Scorechase is a great Forum. They even give cash rewards!
Manhattan GMAT also has a forum where you can interact with an instructor. You don't even have to be a student as they are open to all.

I took kaplan and i can assure you that it sucks. I am not saying that i did not improove my score. Actually i improove my score significantly. The problem with kaplan is that the class is totally useless. i did not learn a think in class. I improoved my scores because i spent about 10 weekends on raw and some weekdays nights studing. Instractors at kaplan have no clue about teaching the materials, they just memorize the problems and the methods. They are not mathor English professors. They are just people who scored high on the exam, at some point in the past. My istructor had taken the gmat 5 years ago. The exam has changed significantly. Insteed of going to kaplan i would recomment you to save your money and just study by yourself. And i am not the only one that beleives this about kaplan the whole class was not satisfied with the instructor or the program. And the money back guarantee is a fraud. Of course you will get a higher score if you do ALL the Work, which is quite alot for someone who is working full time.
The other major flaw of this program is the fact that their materials are a kind of dated. The Gmat exam gets updated constantly while their materials are at least 2 years old. Kaplan is way overated probably because they spent too much money in advertising.
Again my scores were improoved but i really beleive that there is a more efficient way to do so.
My friend took veritas and he is very satisfied . He says that is a great value for the money
I agree that Kaplan is way overrated. My instractor was not good either. However the main problem with this program is that they do not teach you the materials. They teach you stradegies about how to "attack the question and "stradegic guessing". I mean that`s ridiculus. They say that based on their experiance, their instractors take the gmat about 5 times a year each, they tell you like if the question asks you "which of the following" the answer most of the time is d or e and when you backsolve stard with b or d and some other thinks like when in verbal the whole sentence is underlined the answer 90% of the times is e. All these stradegies are good to get you a 500 or so because the exm is not that easy. i mean when the problems get really hard in most of the times is impossible to backsolve because there are many numbers and it will take you way more than 4 minutes to do so. Therefore you have to come up with the equasion. In general if youwant to score above 600 learn their stradegies but also learn the math.
I am currently taking the Veritas course per a recommendation from EVERY one of my co-workers who all went to a top 5 b-school (about 8 people). I am so happy I listened to them. I have researched all of the different prep courses in detail and have found Veritas to offer much more than any of the others. Obviously it depends on the instructor. In NYC, I have Chris Kane, who is phenomenal and I would make sure you can try and have him. He is extremely smart, engages the students, and knows the GMAT like the back of his hand as he routinely takes the GMAT to see how it changes from year to year. He has also written several of the books and tells us which of the Veritas info. to ignore. He is not in it to promote the Company and seems to honestly care about each of his students. Obviously I will have to wait a few weeks until I take the GMAT again but I have no regrets about taking this course regardless of my score. I am learning the material through Veritas verse learning 'tricks' and am confident I can increase my score at least 100 points from when I had taken the GMAT awhile back on my own. I will post again when I receive my score, although I will not attribute any negative score to Veritas. A negative score would be my own fault in that I did not complete a homework assignment or learn a concept to its fullest extent. Hope this helps!
I have actually taken both Veritas and Manhattan GMAT. You can find a detailed analysis of my experience on my blog: http://tmmycgmat.blogspot.com/
Manhattan GMAT totally screwed me over. They cancelled my class on me at the last minute, leaving me to have to scramble to register for a Veritas class almost 50 miles away. But, in the end it was worth it. I scored 730 on my first try (had been scoring in the mid 600s on earlier practice tests). I'd definitely recommend Veritas over Manhattan GMAT after what happened to me.

Nigar,
MLIC is a professional company. I have taken their course and they are excellent. You need not have any worries. I had taken Manhattan Review prior to enrolling in their course in Amsterdam this April, and it was awsome. If they reschedule, there must be a good reason. The hotel where the class was held in April was undergoing renovation and there was a lot of construction noise. The company may have thought that they would like to move the training to a different center to conduct the training in a more calm atmosphere.
I scored a 710 after the training with MLIC. They are the best.

Nigar/Adriane
Nigar, were you scheduled to take the April MLIC course in Boston? I was suppose to take it too but they canceled it with about a day's notice.
This may not be the appropriate forum, but if you read this, have you heard anything about being rescheduled? I have emailed them about 5 times in the last 2 weeks with no response. Is this your experience?
Anyway, should you read this and have heard anything any response would be greatly appreciated. So far I have found their pre class material to be excellent, it's just that their communication is zero!

Hello all,
Here is a story for anyone considering MLIC for GMAT PREP.
I registered, payed, confirmed for the May 2008 Boston class, got the preclass material (which was decent) and began studying.
A month and a half went by and the class was 2 days away so I emailed MLIC to confirm that the class and location hadn't changed (I live 3 hours away from Boston). To my suprise, 22 hours before the class was to begin, they responded and told me the class was canceled and would be rescheduled at a later date. I'm not sure why they couldn't tell me a FEW DAYS before the class started as I had already taken time off work and made hotel reservations in Boston (not cheap)!
Over the next few weeks I emailed them probably 10 times requesting any information about the course rescheduling, zero responses. I called and left several messages, zero responses. After about 3 weeks I FINALLY reached someone who told me we would probably be put into the June 2008 class in Boston and he would confirm it with me by the end of the day. He didn't confirm.
I called back the next day and he told me the same thing... he didn't confirm.
I finally got an email from them saying that the Boston class was full and I COULD NOT ATTEND!!! They offered me a spot in the New York City class (which is about 10 hours from where I live), however, they kindly offered me this spot in the NYC class 1 DAY BEFORE THE CLASS BEGAN IN NYC!!!
In the end, my advice to anyone considering MLIC GMAT should consider again!
DO NOT TAKE MLIC GMAT!!! THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU AND ARE EXTREMELY INCOMPETENT IN EVERYTHING THEY DO!
So now I get to start my new battle with them... getting my money back!
I hope this helps anyone wondering which GMAT prep course to take...
STAY FAR AWAY FROM MLIC!
I totally agree about MLIC. I have been trying since the first of May to get my money back. I call every day.
The first response I got after a week of calling, some random guy on this cell phone. Was of course, we will refund your money this week.
After three weeks of the previous story, remember I called every day. I got this story, oh of course we will refund your money. We just have to check to make sure your transaction went through. What? This is not a check, it is a credit card transaction, they know immediately. But I was hopeful and waited.
After another three weeks of that story, Yes, I still called every day. I got this story. Oh you have been approved for a credit, but the lady who does the credits is out of town, and no one else knows how to do it. Yes again, I believed.
And three weeks later. Yes, still calling every day. I got this answer, "Oh we can't give you a full refund anymore, we will give you 50% or you can find someone else to take your spot."
Oh, I am screaming mad. Please don't be stupid and go with these guys, like I did. I did a little research afterwards and it looks like the person who posted such fabulous reviews, also says the same thing about the SAT and the LSAT. Looks like they are promoting their business through online chats and blogs.
STAY AWAY FROM MLIC
Hello Anonymous,
What you say is completely true! I am in a similar boat! I have managed to get a near full refund from them (minus a charge for admin fee and their materials, which is bs, I don't see how you can charge an admin fee for services not provided!) but I'll take it!
If you are looking to find a way to get them to respond to your emails, this is the only way I was able to make that happen. When sending your email, in addition to the person you are dealing with, CC as many MLIC related email address you can possibly find, and email that same email about 5 times in a row! Haha, not the nicest and most professional course of action but it works and when a company like MLIC is actualy STEALING FROM YOU (which is how they appear to make their money!) then who cares about how they feel!
Anyways, I hope this helps! Good luck with getting your money back, unfortionetly you are going to need all the luck you can get!
ADVICE... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, ANYBODY OUT THERE, PLEASE DO NOT USE MLIC! There are way too many GMAT classes out there to be treated this way!

MLIC is definitely a huge scam. Try getting in contact with them once you have already paid, and it is impossible. Big waste of money and awful service.
The posts by 'Simon' and 'Anonymous' about MLIC are not true and are fraudulent. I have taken MLIC course and they are the best training course out there. Looks like some competitors who are envious of MLIC's success and quality are creating a false impression in the marketplace, using your blog as a vehicle. Please remove these posts disparaging MLIC forthwith. I am notifying MLIC for further action.
Simon, what were you smoking? Are you a decoy for a competition trying to spread false propaganda about MLIC? The other anonymous blogger must be an Indian girl who wants to have her dad spring to her defense. Has your dad found a boy who will beat you on a daily basis yet? Get a life, or move to PUNJAB.
Wow Randy, the only person who would knows that information (obviously seeing that the company is a one person thing) decides to show up and use it online. You have some huge balls. NOT
Do you have your 'father's permission' to use the word BALLS? But then, do you even know who your father is? Your mother is keeping a secret that she had not let on. Mind your balls, pooooooo ja.
Pooo,
You said, "only person who would knows that information." Is it Punjabi? 'who WOULD KNOWS'? Which information you are referring to? The information about the guy who would marry you and beat the crap out of you on a daily basis? You hardly make me randy, pooooooooooo.
Looks like this 'anonymous' girl, who does not have the balls to reveal her name and to post fraudulent posts likes balls so much that she fantasizes about HUGE BALLS. Is a Korean guy running this blog site? What is next on this site? Phone sex? Are you game, Poooooooooooo for phone sex?
What is this forum turning into? Guys, stop using this forum to spread false information about a decent company. I have alerted MLIC to this matter, and understand that one of the 'anonymous' posters here is a guy called GREGORY DUNN, who fradulently obtained MLIC's proprietary materials and tried to pull a scam on this company. The company is proceeding with criminal complaint against this dude. No wonder, this guy is venting on this forum allegedly run by an Asian guy, who could not express his views in China but thinks that anything goes in America (or, is he in Kanada?).
Losers, chill out, and stop spreading phony stories about the best GMAT prep company out there. I challenge anyone to show me a better prep company than MLIC. I have seen more than one and MLIC cannot be beaten.
Gregory Dunn, huh? I read about a child molester in the San Francisco bay area.Is he the same guy molesting good companies? Thanks, Google, for giving us a forum to play fast and loose with facts.. How about phooooooooooooone sex, pooooooooooooooooooooooooooja?
Is Poooooooooooooooooooooooooja a Korean name? Sound like poo to me.
poo, smelly! yikes
A Chinese name or Korean name will have lots of Chins in it. Looks like this Pooo (smelly) girl is an Indian or a middle eastern chick who wants her father to approve of when she can have sex with her soul mate.
Normally i would be a surprised that a company can be so unprofessional, but with MLIC, I don't expect anything better.
I signed up for MLIC 2 years ago to attend a course in Boston and had the worst experience of my life. The only person who I could ever get a hold of was some paki guy trying to fake an American accent and he was totally unreliable. The course unexpectedly got "canceled" (even though I'm sure it never even existed) and by that time I couldn't even sign up for another prep class.
Kudos to those that are trying to prevent future people from getting screwed over. Adriane shove it up your @$$. Listen to people like Simon. His experience is more than just an individual case
I had to take my previous post off because I received an email notification from MLIC's "Legal Department" telling me they were going to put criminal charges against me for slander and so on. So I guess "Adriane" or should I say RANDY, you did go inform the "company".
Anyways, my issue here is that, if you do not take off every single one of your anonymous posts that have been written insulting me, my cultural background and my family, the you will have much more to worry about than people slandering you online. Don't make me embarrass your company even further by copying and pasting all previous emails between the "company" and me -- or should I say the lack of responses on YOUR behalf.
Sincerely,
Blogger87

Can you please tell me how to take off my comments? I am in a similar boat as you and would like to take them off. Thanks.

Dear blog administrator
My account is all messed up. Can you please delete all posts by simon? thank you!
This blogsite is fun.. some crazy motherfuc*ers are posting some crazy stuff here.. Shove it up your herniated assho*e, you sore loser who allegedly tried to take the prep in Boston.. Show this anger to your whor*ng mother who lied to you about your real father.. Shove it up her puss*
Can anyone verify the parentage of Mario Tognetti who lives in a log cabin in Montana, and is certifiably gay?
Administrator, HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, take this site down forthwith. This place is turning out to be a joke. We need to talk GMAT, not mothers. Why is there no moderation?
Wow using the same line twice anonymous? Talk about being uncreative, just like the lame-ass company you run, or should i refer to it as a sh1thole

Is Adriane the person (who someone claims to be Randy???) the person in charge of MLIC? It totally appears to be the case.
WHAT A FRAUD SPAMMER!
hello, my name is seth keller and I had a crush on my mother when I was a teenager and was so-dom-ized by my mother's boyfriend. The trauma made me post some awful things under anonymous name here. I need help! mom!
My name is greg dunn.. I fraudulently obtained MLIC's materials and tried to scam the company. The company was too smart for me.. anyway, I fooled my company to give me a promotion.. Am I a lucky basturd or what?
Hey Seth, I have a crush on you, dude! I am jealous of your mom.
--- greg dunnnnnnnno why
M -> maniupulative bastards
L -> Lack of professionalism
I -> ignorant of your needs
C -> cheaters and scammers
DO NOT GO WITH MLIC.
Jenny B.
Jenny Bitch, is that what your initial B stand for? Or, are you simply too ashamed to admit that your britches and your pea-sized brain is full of shi*t?
AntiJennybitch
What the hell is 'ignorant of your needs', Jenny Beatch? You need some good anal cleansing.
Is this Jennybitch the Korean girl running this blogsite? Looks like the Koreanbeatch is busy eating dog steak.. Go figure.
WOW ADRIANE, you seem to have taken every MLIC prep class out there. You must be a real genius!
________________________________
I took the MLIC LSAT prep course and found it the best training available out there. I had worked
through Testmasters bible before I bombed the test and before I enrolled in the MLIC LSAT class.
The strategy guides for LR and RC provided by MLIC were the best I had worked through,
and they show you how the three sections of the LSAT test the same logical reasoning skills.
We even had a session in which we were trained how to pick the correct answer for the RC
section without reading the passage. http://www.lsat-prep.us/LSAT.HTML is the link and
MLIC provides the best training for LSAT. Testmasters is no patch on MLIC LSAT prep. My score
went up from 152 to 169 after I took the MLIC LSAT prep class. MLIC is the best training course
for the LSAT out there.
Adriane
Actually my name is Jenny Backton and you guys are the worst company in the world. My boyfriend had the worst experience, or should i say LACK OF EXPERIENCE with MLIC.
So what do you do after you collect money? It's obvious it doesn't go towards your website that's for sure.
PS i've looked into your classes in september, and the centers which you claim they were located it, those centers had NO clue what i was talking about when I asked them about your prep class being held.
itsn't it pretty obvious the posts defending MLIC are total scams?! i mean give me a break, how would this Adriane chick know so much about the company i.e why a class got canceled in a certain location?
if you think posting under an anonymous identity and defending your company by insulting everyone who speaks the truth about it, is going to help save face for your company, you are so wrong.
Jenny B.
(Yes i may be a bitch. SO WHAT?! does it look like i care. and NO i am not korean, middle eastern or india - i am CAUCASIAN. are you going to hate on that too seeing that you've hated on every other culture possible?!)
hahaha mlic sucks balls
That finalizes it, I'm going with Veritas.
And the rumours are true, I did call MLIC and it was some bizarre guy who answered the phone and failed to provide any answers to my questions.

What questions did you ask? Did you ask the bizarre guy that you are unsure who your father is because your mother has been screwing around? Of course, the bizarre guy at MLIC will not know the answer, you mudda-fukka. Get suckered at Veritas. Do you know where your mother is now? Do you feel lonely on father's day, you messed up son of a bitch?
So, you are a caucasian, huh, you Jenny Bitch? A white trash, perhaps??????/
Even a white trash does not use the name JENNY. This trash is clearly oriental. Do not eat a Korean pussy. She would taste like dog.
As for me, my name is Seth Keller, and I was sodomized by my mother's illicit boyfriend. My mother screwing around with black guys, who had allegedly big pricks. One black dude rammed my butthole.. It was painful but it felt good afterward. I am game for sodomy. Anyone want to make out with me contact me at sakeller40@yahoo.com
My name is Greg Dunn.. I am being sodomized by my employer who agreed to give me a promotion when I told him that I was going to grad school. I tried to screw MLIC but they wised up to my shenanigans. I am an asshole. I like anal sex too, and especially like to receive it. Veritas recycles tests you can easily buy from Arco, Oxford, 800score.com, and other worthless sources and charges you an arm and a leg for its useless sessions. If you go with Veritas, you are going down in flames, you pathetic asshole. No matter how much you lackeys of Veritas and MGMAT trash MLIC, MLIC rocks and is the best. MLIC beats all other courses out there. That is the simple truth.
The simple truth is MLIC sucks and their lack of credibility, shitty website and numerous fake posts prove it.
Oh yeah, and their lack of business and intellectual stupidity.
How can Jenny be an ORIENTAL name? It is a name that can belong to anyone from any race. And if you really wanted to classify me, you'd do it by my last name which is clearly anything but oriental. So shove that up your anal-loving ass MLIC
What's wrong with being oriental, bitch? So, you are admitting that you are a white trash who is anal-retentive slut. Are you saying that MLIC lacks stupidity? You betcha, bitch. Your writing shows that you were fucked by your father and your mother's illicit screwbuddies.
Shove your comments up your diseased cunt and stop whoring around here.
This jenny beatch is totally fucked up, man! What the fuck is she talking about? "So shove that up your anal-loving ass." What is the pussy is anal-loving ass, cunt? You bring shame on the whole white race, you two-piece whore! How come this forum has some screwed up motherfuckers hanging out and trashing anyone and everyone here? Thanks Google for free speech.
If you are thinking of any GMAT course, stay far far away from MGMAT or Veritas. They are the biggest fraud artistes in town.
who would believe the above post when MLIC is writing it? MLIC is the most unreliable company ever. They are stupid and fake, so if anyone is a fraud company it is MLIC and that can be proven on any possible forum
